Psychology professor Yu Feng from Wuhan University asks why the pure joy of childhood play vanishes as we grow up. Through football, academic research, and daily life, he traces how Weber's 「iron cage」 of rationalization turns everything into a means to an end. Drawing on Fromm's 「having vs. being」 framework, he argues that purposeless play may be the most authentic proof of our humanity — and our last defense against a world that has rationalized meaning out of existence.
