This is a basement fridge.
everybody above the age of 30 can remember growing up with a basement fridge .
It was an artifact of another time, another home,from before you were born.
It might have been Grandpa's, or thrown away by a neighbor and salvagedby your dad and his brothers in the pillaging days
of his youth. But it was probably always there, because it weighed five thousand pounds.
You were forbidden to touch it, of course,
except under very specific circumstances. There was a chance, however small,
that you would somehow become trapped inside it
- so your mother assured you - and if that ever happened,
you would die. It was a cursed artifact, and it ate small children.
That mummy you could picture inside it was yourself, frozen,solid,
in an alternate future that never came to be.When you eventually moved,
that old fridge stayed where it was. It was too old, too heavy, and it only ever sorta worked anyway.
but it forever the mystique. It was a cursed. To you.
