I started this project with a clear vision for an album about the repetitive, constant struggles modern artists go through with their mental health and how you have to learn to just keep fighting, how you have to learn how to face those struggles because at every stage of your career they will be there. The album was going to be called NO WINNER, meaning there's no final battle to win and unlock happiness, you'll always be facing imposter syndrome, you'll always be putting too high of expectations on yourself, you have to learn to find your own happiness because the struggle never ends.After years of work, that belief changed. I spent years writing songs about each of my fears and doubts (Cursed about being cursed to fail, Penance about feeling like life is out of my control and I am paying for my mistakes), each step of the way working with a mental health specialist to deconstruct all these horrible things I was telling myself and creating new beliefs, I'm not cursed, I can do what I want with my life, this struggle I believed to be so real... was exactly that, just something I believed. With every old belief I replaced I came one step closer to realizing happiness. It took me about two years to finally understand that belief in victory is victory itself. There IS no final battle to win, yes, you will always be fighting, but you win by believing you will win. The real victory to be had over your mental health is to go through life believing you are capable and not letting minor defeats become permanent failures. Life isn't one big buildup to one final moment that will solve all your problems, life is in how you face those problems. The belief you can win is winning already. When you don't let your doubts and fears define you, when learn to write your own definition of success, you realize all of the ways you've already won.
