Jean-Pierre Bourguignon教授是国际知名数学家，研究方向为微分几何和理论物理。他现任法国高等科学研究所教授，曾任法国数学会主席、欧洲数学会主席、欧洲研究理事会主席和法国高等科学研究所所长等职。由于其杰出的数学成就，Jean-Pierre Bourguignon教授获选为欧洲科学院院士、西班牙皇家科学院外籍院士、葡萄牙科学院外籍院士、伦敦数学学会荣誉会士。他还曾荣获法国物理学会Paul Langevin奖和法国数学和物理科学Rayonnement Francais奖。

【报告摘要】
Throughout history, scientific discoveries developed in several cultural contexts have taken different forms.
Through some examples of historic significance - mostly taken from Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the journey proposed aims to show how scientific knowledge constitutes itself, thanks to the ingenuity and the hard, and sometimes audacious, work of many.
Each example will allow to draw a lesson that helps to underscore conditions for the scientific method to be consolidated and for scientific discoveries to be recognized, leading to a permanent restructuration of the scientific community.
At any given moment, having available new technical tools often plays a key role in enabling further developments. These do not happen without raising some controversies, some coming from the society at large but some also from within the scientific community itself.
