Description
If you talk to a person in their 2nd language,
you are talking to that person’s brain. 🧠
If you talk to a person in their 1st language,
you are talking to that person’s heart. ❤️
This is sth I learned in my undergraduate Linguistics class while studying abroad in Canada🇨🇦, and it still follows me to this day.
One thing that I never expected is that, this quote also joined the journey for the interview Queena did with me a year ago (Nov. 2023). She said she wanted to interview me for her class, but I didn’t expect she would bring this interview to another level.
She brought her research to the ICLE/GILE Conference, 2024 @ Kanda University of International Studies, and presented the research with the title of: The Construction of a Multilingual-Multicultural Identity’
PS:
ICLE (Intercultural Communication in Language Education)
GILE (Global Issues in Language Education)
Research Q:
- How does one’s language background shape how they perceive and interact in the world?
- How does the interviewee prove her identity to be multilingual and multicultural?
She shared her research at ‘Ethnographic Research Project: Language, Culture and Identity’ @ AIU Research Showcase 2024, titled: Narrative Inquiry of a Multilingual Identity
Your hard work and absolutely well-designed research👍. I am honoured to be in this project with you! You analyzed the inside and outside of me ❤️
told me that you would put this research in your future resume, so I will forever be a part of your bio (that’s very romantic haha). I want to let you know that, you helped me fulfill one of the biggest regrets in my life in a way that no one else could; you showed me how Mom would smile back at me after receiving the birthday card; you will forever be the warm light filling that hole in my heart.
