Hans Werner Henze - Sonatina 1947 (1947)

I wrote this sonatina in December 1947 for the greatly respected Russian piano teacher, Wladimir Horbowski, who worked in Stuttgart. Over the years, probably as a result of my moving house on several occasions, I managed to mislay the manuscript and believed it lost. 
Recently, however, it turned up in Basle, in the archives of the Paul Sacher Foundation, and is now enjoying the light of day once again. I'm really excited about its rediscovery from that time of my life, its clumsy and vague reminiscences of piano music by the old masters and about its coming performance. A big thank you to Christopher Tainton, the pianist, and to all those who have helped to bring this piece back to life.
